I hate hearing those words on Friday morning. I think it’s Carmen’s favorite command. She teaches my 6 a.m. spin class on Fridays–otherwise known as Death by Carmen.
On command, we grasp the handlebars in the “3” position and peddle as fast as we can for either 30 (or as long as it takes Carmen to count 30 seconds) or for an extended breakaway to failure.
To say it’s taxing is an understatement, but it’s also rewarding.
At the end, you’re spent but satisfied. Your heart is pounding but your body is burning fat.
All while your friends are still in bed.
Next week, think about breaking away from the pack in other aspects of your life.
Don’t be satisfied hanging with the field, staying with the crowd.
There’s nothing inherently wrong with keeping up, but winners ultimately break away. They put their head down and “peddle” as fast as they can.
And, yes, sometimes it hurts. Sometimes it taxes you–your mind, body and spirit.
But when you turn around and see you’ve left the field behind, the greatest rewards are yours.
On the job, in life, it’s time to breakaway, folks!
