Weighty Matters: Too Fat for TV News?

Denmom Emcee's a local event

Trouble brewing in Dallas (doesn’t trouble always seem to be brewing there?!) where a local anchor-reporter is charging television station WFAA with weight discrimination, claiming her size has prevented her from gaining a prime anchor position.

Anchor reporter Debbie Denmon has been at the station since 2000, and levied the lawsuit after being passed over for a prime-time weekday anchor position and told to “slim down,” according to this report.

She appears to be particularly miffed because a fellow anchor (male) has gained considerable weight over the years–even joking about it on the air–and has remained as sports anchor.

No one at the station, including Denmom, is commenting.

What do you think?

Does size matter when it comes to whom you watch on the local news?

Does size matter in the workplace?

Have you been adversely affected on the job by your weight?
